Preventing Burnout as a Service Provider

As a service provider, it’s likely that your whole day every day revolves around meeting the needs of other people.

And, you likely really enjoy this, (why be a service provider otherwise?) but you can still find yourself feeling burnt out or like you’re missing that “spark” that comes with being well-rested and invigorated.

I’ve been there myself, and today I’m covering exactly how to prevent burnout as a service provider - from taking time for yourself to setting boundaries with your clients.

Client + Business Boundaries

If you’re a service provider AND a business owner, it makes the possibility of burnout even more prevalent. However, you can curb these problems by setting (and sticking to) firm boundaries in your business and client services.

One of the most obvious and important (but easier said than done) boundaries to set is your business hours. Deciding which hours (and how many hours) you want to work each day is a personal decision only you can make - but once you set those hours, stick to them. This means that everything business/client-related that happens outside of those hours should wait until the next business day. This includes emails, phone calls, social media DMs, and more.

Answering an email here and there during dinner or before you go to bed may seem harmless, but it disrupts your valuable “me-time” and can leave you feeling overwhelmed.

Likewise, other business practices should wait until regular business hours, including website revamping, bookkeeping, and planning. If this seems impossible to you, it may be time to look into hiring a virtual assistant or help so you can scale your business without causing burnout.

Self-Care

One of my favorite ways to take care of myself after a day of helping clients is to practice self-care at home every night. I will do a facial, take a warm bath, or listen to music and read - whatever it is that I’m feeling!

Some of my favorite products to use during my self-care routines are listed on my website here.

It’s important to remember that self-care doesn’t have to be a huge production or take hours - something as simple as applying some nice lotion or taking the time to do your nails can go a long way.

Affirmations

Affirmations are a great way to prevent burnout. Reminding yourself that you are more than a vessel providing a service to others is paramount to preserving your own identity and value as a human being.

You can write these affirmations in a journal, say them out loud, or repeat them in your head while meditating. Whatever helps you remember your worth and individuality outside your business or job is great!

As a service provider, I’ve had my fair share of days feeling “blah” or like I just don’t have any more energy to give - but, over time, I’ve learned what causes those feelings and how to prevent them so I am always able to give 100% to my clients during their appointments.

A few of my favorite affirmations are,

“You are here to heal others, the rest will follow.”

“My energy is abundant.”

&

“What I need right now is within me.”
