3 Ways to Make the Most of Your Mental Health Day

We get you - your stress and anxiety levels have reached their peak. It’s time to take a mental health day, but what will you do with it? Our head tells us to just lay in bed all day, and we’ll feel better when there are key things we should do instead to help our body and mind reset. While one day of nurturing your body won’t cure everything, including underlying health conditions, it will undoubtedly provide a much-needed break to pause, me back with greater regroup, energy, and a fresh, less-stressed perspective. Who doesn’t want that?

Today we’re sharing three tips to help you make the most of your mental health day. Because let’s be honest, your mental health is just as important as your physical health - and that’s on self-care.

3 Tips to Make the Most of Your Mental Health Day

Mind Clearing Walks

What consists of a mind-clearing walk? Mind-clearing walks are walks taken within your day (whatever your schedule allows), whether it’s in the morning before you go to work, during your lunch break or before you have to get the kids from the bus stop, these walks are about 30 minutes long (you can go longer if your schedule allows) and they’re a moment for you not only to get in a little physical exercise but also to have a moment to yourself to reflect, give gratitude and think about the woman you want to be. It’s almost a way of manifesting - through motion instead of stillness. Your walks don’t have to be completely silent, though. As part of this self-care, we recommend throwing on healing Hz music, audiobooks, or even your favorite uplifting podcast! Use this time to move, get fresh air and start getting excited about the person you are becoming. The more often you do this, the quicker you’ll see your life change. It’s enough to make anyone want to get out of bed when you realize the benefits.

Book Yourself a Massage

Massages are relaxing naturally (the zen-ness of the room,  the laying on a warm table) and highly beneficial. Talk about reducing stress and anxiety; massages help eliminate unwanted tension in places you didn’t even know you had tension! Here at Health Resonates, we have 60, 75, or 90-minute massages - each full of uninterrupted relaxation. The length of your massage will depend on if you want a specific part of the body worked on more thoroughly (women who sit at a desk all day and type away, trust us, you’re going to want an upper back and arm massage focus - we don’t even see you and we know your traps are tight!) Read more about our massage offerings and benefits here, or book your next appointment here.

Cook a Healthy, Balanced Meal

No, coffee is not a food group (though we love our mid-day coffee breaks.. That ‘first sip feelin’.. *swoon*) But believe it or not, our beloved caffeine can throw our systems off and negatively affect us our adrenals. So if you’re feeling low energy, eating carbohydrates, processed sugars, and your favorite oat milk latte, we hate to tell you this. Still, even though it may taste great at the moment, you’re not helping your body balance. Opt for a ground turkey bowl with veggies or a spinach and greens smoothie. Think of food as fuel. Fuel to make you think clearer, feel better and get back in the groove and own it!

Regarding mental health days, be super intentional with your actions. That means less scrolling aimlessly on social media, using substances of any kind, hanging out with friends, and more of the activities we listed above. It’s a day to be selfish, replenish, and self-care.
