Destress Before Winter: My Calming Routine

Winter is coming—and that can be a LOT to process for those of us who suffer from seasonal depression or anxiety.

I have a winter preparation routine I swear by, and it involves a lot of calm and relaxation that allows me to put my best (booted) foot forward when it starts to get cold.

Without further ado, here is my calming routine for winter!

  1. Set the mood by setting up your space. It’s hard to be calm in a chaotic, messy, or loud environment—so ensuring your space evokes the same kind of energy you want to embody is important. I love to light candles, use some essential oils, and turn the lights lower so I can relax and focus on the beauty around me instead of my huge to-do list.

  2. Get clean. I don’t know about you—but I don’t feel relaxed unless I’m clean. So I always take the opportunity to take a hot bath and use products that make me feel my best during my calming routine. I cleanse my face with this amazing cleanser, and after the shower, use this Arnica Body Oil to moisturize. Remember—you don’t have to rush through this part of the routine! (Psst...you can even bring a glass of wine into the bathtub with you! No judgment here.)

  3. Face mask! What would any self-care or relaxation routine be without a face mask? I love several different types, but this mask from Living Libations is one of my all-time favorites. It is moisturizing, rejuvenating, and smells amazing—making it my go-to. If you don’t want to order online, you can always pick up a face mask from your local drugstore or spa.

  4. Splurge on self-care. At the start of a new season, it can be SO beneficial to splurge on some sort of self-care appointment—whether it’s a massage, energy healing, or something else entirely. If you want to go a step further, you can even set up a few (or several!) appointments throughout the season to keep you feeling your best.

  5. Journal. This is something that costs no money but can give you the ultimate return on your time investment. Journaling promotes relaxation and is a crucial part of my calming routine because it allows me to be introspective and understand where my anxieties are coming from. It’s also helpful to go back and read old entries to help make sense of thought patterns!

Hopefully, this inside look at my calming routine inspires you to create your own that you can use to manage any anxiety or worries you have about the transition to winter.
